About
Nicholas van der Wal is a documentary photographer from Massachusetts. Throughout his life, van der Wal has dedicated the majority of his spare time in the outdoors which has led to a passion of backpacking, cycling, and sailing. Additionally, as a child, van der Wal's family would make weekly visits to their local dairy farm to purchase their dairy products directly from the farmer. This experience has allowed van der Wal to personally witness the cycle of life on the farm as well as the cycle of production and the political and economic implications inherent in the business of farming. His passion for the natural world in tandem with his connection to agriculture has led van der Wal to focus his photographic efforts on environmental issues such as consumption, pollution, and society's use of land.
